Village Electrification
Solar microgrids, street lighting & community buildings.
What this is
Generation, storage and distribution for habitations that the grid reaches poorly or not at all.
A village microgrid is a small utility, and it fails in the ways utilities fail. Demand grows once supply is reliable, so a system sized to today’s load is undersized within a year. It has to be maintainable by someone who lives there, because a fault that waits for a visiting engineer is an outage measured in weeks. Those two constraints shape the design more than the choice of hardware does.
Where it fits
- Habitations without a reliable grid connection
- Gram panchayat buildings, schools and community facilities
- Street lighting on routes where a cable run is impractical
- Settlements where load is expected to grow as supply becomes dependable
What the work involves
- Demand survey, and a realistic view of how that demand will grow
- Generation and storage sizing with headroom designed in
- Distribution layout, protection and consumer connections
- Metering and whatever tariff or contribution model the community adopts
- Local maintenance training and a spares plan that does not assume a city
- Handover to the body that will actually own it
How every project runs
One accountable team from the first site visit to the maintenance years afterwards. Nothing is handed to a subcontractor at the seams.
